This is a good story. The reason for 3 stars is more of a personal issue. I don't want this to deter anyone from reading this.
Great plot and characters.
The Characters
Kotie- A young girl on the run from an abusive ex-boyfriend. She's a witch but does not know that she is. She is Forrest's Mate.
Forrest- He's the Sheriff of Moonrise, a werewolf and Alpha of his Clan.
Christian- He wants to steal the mystical Powers in Moonrise which will make him practically invincible. He also has the ability to shift into a bear.
Miss Maggie- A bear shifter. She owns the bar and hired Kotie when she arrived in town. She also helps keep an eye on Kotie.
Burt- The abusive ex-boyfriend. He's a witch who was suppose to hold onto Kotie for someone higher up. Now his mission is to get Kotie back at any cost.
I'm going to write a synopsis but am leaving out all the juicy details. It'll give you alot to look forward to.
Kotie needs to get away from Burt. She sneaks out and buys the first bus ticket she could. Her money will only take her as far as Moonrise. On the rest stop just before getting to Moonrise, Christian gets on the bus and sits next to her. She sees he's not quite right and wants nothing to do with him. He asks her for coffee when they get to Moonrise, she refuses, he gets violent and grabs her to drag her off. Forrest, the Sheriff, drives up and Christian leaves. Forrest immediately recognizes the Kotie is his Mate, touches her hand and leaves his scent on her for the other shifters to stay away. She goes to Miss Maggie's bar to get a job. She gets hired but Maggie sends her to the B&B to catch up on sleep. As she walked up the secluded road Christian tried to grab her again. When she wouldn't go he tried to cast a spell to control her. As he did, a light came from her to protect her. She started to pass out when she heard animal growls. She wakes up on Forrest's couch confused. He wants her to stay with so she'll be safe. She hasn't stopped thinking about him. When she goes to shower she fantasized about him. She can't stay away from and goes down to be with him. She can't understand this instant connection. Forrest puts 2 of his deputies to watch her while the rest of his squad goes in search of Christian. It seems as soon as they think they have him he disappears. Christian loses patience trying to get to Kotie so he sets a huge fire to the bar guaranteeing that Forrest will leave Kotie with just the deputies. He takes control of one and attacks the other one in bear form. He then drags Kotie out and takes her to the springs that have the power. Of course, Forrest saves her.

WOW!! What a FURRIFIC story! Where to begin? First off, there is so much story, so much GRRREAT story that it is a HOWL of a read! It has this curious blend of down South manners & charm, raunchy sex with almost over-the-top corny ummm, vocalisation and a close knit small town vibe of a community where the good people all help each other out, even the, or especially the scared stranger who is exhausted & filthy from her few days bus ride that brought her to their town. Which brings me to the characters! You will find a great cast of characters like no others, from Kotie who is running from an abusive relationship, to slimey Christian whom she meets on the bus trip, to the hot & sexy Sheriff that rescues her, and many others. And let me tell you, Forrest, the Sheriff of Moonrise had ME drooling! With all of these PAWMAZING assortment of people, I felt like I was living this story right along with them! It is such a FANGTASTIC story that holds so many secrets, magics, shifters, secrets, hot men in uniform, friends, mystery, true friendship, romance, secrets, a random assortment of bad guys all while being told with such raw emotion that it held me firmly in its jaws!! Did I mention there are a LOT of secrets in this town? One of the unique features I discovered while reading this series is that everything seems to be contradictory. For example Kotie is sweet & has this innocence about her, but then the things she does & says with Forrest are anything but sweet & innocent! I actually loved that about both Kotie and the story because it helped to round out the depth & richness that this story has, rather than taking away from it. It gives it even more magical charm & appeal, immersing me even further ensuring I would never want to leave! Not that there was any doubt before, but just in case. ) It ALL works PAWFECTLY and OH-SO-BEAUTIFURRY together to create a story that is IMPAWSSIBLE to put down!! That is yet one more part of the reason that I loved this book so much! Renee has this WOLFTASTIC talent for creating the kinds of stories I love to read!! I cannot wait to read more!!
